As I was thinking about last night’s Oasis “Song of the Day” post, it struck me that maybe I should be using these to shed some light on bands that are a little more obscure than Oasis.  I love them, but they’re hardly left of center anymore.

So: The Dream Syndicate.

Operating out of San Francisco in the mid-80’s, The Dream Syndicate was the standard-bearer of a movement that came to be known as the Paisley Underground (along with other bands like Rain Parade and True West).  Led by singer-guitarist Steve Wynn, The Dream Syndicate was a highly literate and musically ferocious band.  They flamed out fairly quickly, lasting for only a handful of albums, and this is the title track from their brilliant debut, The Days of Wine and Roses:
