So, here’s my question (as I take a break from grading portfolios):
Now that gay marriage has been outlawed in New York State, why aren’t all these Christian conservatives who say gay marriage would undermine the sanctity of the institution screaming for Tiger Woods’ head on a stick? Or Steve Phillips’? Or, better yet, how about Mark Sanford’s (R-SC)? Or John Ensign’s (R-NV)? Or Newt Gingrich’s (R-GA)? Or David Vitter’s (R-LA)?
If the marriage between one man and one woman is so sacred – apparently so sacred that the joining of two men or two women would shake the institution to its very foundation – why aren’t more people angry when some douchebag politician or overpaid celebrity can’t keep it in his pants and cheats on his wife? Why isn’t that a bigger threat to marriage? Gays just want to have the right to be married. It’s all these straight people who are purposefully, willfully, knowingly violating the contract into which they entered.
Someone please tell me how gay marriage is a bigger threat to marriage than straight people who get divorced. This seems to be a (perhaps the) fundamental question, but none of the gay marriage opponents are ever able to answer it.
And, with that in mind, kudos to Barbara Ann Radnofsky, a candidate for Attorney General in Texas, for pointing out that that state’s 2005 gay marriage ban may have accidentally outlawed all marriages – even the “real” ones – in the state. Leave it to Texas.
And on a related note, this just in from Cardinal Javier Lozano Barragan, speaking Wednesday at the Vatican:
“People are not born homosexual, they become homosexual, for different reasons: education issues or because they did not develop their own identity during adolescence. It may not be their fault, but acting against nature and the dignity of the human body is an insult to God… Transsexuals and homosexuals will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
So, gays, tell me: Which “education issue” will you hold responsible for your homosexuality? If I were gay, I’d blame algebra.

I would blame P.E. Locker rooms filled with half naked people of the same sex. Haven’t you seen Carrier? You should know what ladies locker rooms are like.

Speaking as a heterosexual, I am able to judge that my attraction to the opposite sex was not something that I chose or that I continue to choose. It has always been within me. It is immediate and unrelenting. That part of my being is activated by the female. It is a given. A gift or a curse depending on one’s perspective of the moment. Why would one assume that a homosexual’s attraction to the same sex was given any differently? It simply is what it is and should be honored as the God given that it is. We choose what actions to take in our own lives, after the fact. Should one not be equally enraged when a homosexual chooses to marry into a heterosexual union that they can never truly honor? Doesn’t ignoring one’s God given personal nature cause more trouble in the world than honoring it? Every one of us should be allowed to honor the loves that we feel with those that feel the same loves. Homosexuals aren’t asking for the right to marry heterosexuals. They are asking to marry those that feel as they do and share that same love. That does uphold the family. The practice of honoring love through its legal declaration should be celebrated by any two adult individuals who are willing to make that commitment to one another and carry out that love as a family.

Okay, I have spent the last four days writing two college essays, a horrifying group project, and applying to three grad schools that hate me so forgive my previous comment. I was trying to say Carrie.

And even if it wasn’t part of your human makeup/genetic code, whatever, my response to the bible thumpers is this. Does someone being gay deprive you of:
Life?
Liberty?
The Pursuit of Happiness?
Then shut the fuck up and mind your own business.
